PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject resin excellent in mechanical properties, low in surface tension, and useful as a material for e.g. artificial pulmonary membrane by reacting an epihalohydrin with a bisphenol having specific structure in an aprotic polar solvent. ;SOLUTION: At least one kind of bisphenol having structure of formula I (X is a group of formula II, etc.; Y is H, etc.; (m) is an integer of 1-4), an epihalohydrin at a molar ratio thereto of 0.95-1.05, and at least equimolar amount of sodium hydroxide's aqueous solution are added to an aprotic polar solvent, and the resulting system is homogeneously agitated at a reaction temperature not lower than room temperature but not higher than the boiling point of the operatic polar solvent, thus obtaining the objective resin shown pref. by formula III ((1) is a number of ≥1), free from any insoluble and infusible gel, containing 20-100 mol.% of R group of formula IV with the remaining R group shown by formula I, etc., and having a reduced viscosity at 25°C of ≥0.6 (dL/g).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
