PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and precisely provide the soil moisture content in a part close to the surface layer of a rice field. ;SOLUTION: In this method, the half of one metal probe 1 is buried in the soil, the other half is exposed to the air to measure the dielectric constant of the whole body, and the soil moisture content is calculated from the dielectric constant of the soil determined by use of the expression ε₂=2ε-1 (ε₂: dielectric constant of soil, ε : dielectric constant influenced by both air and soil). The lower half 5 and upper half 6 of the probe 1 section have mechanisms sensitive to the dielectric constant in the soil and to the dielectric constant in the air, respectively, and TDR measuring method can be also used.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
