PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid spatial optical modulator which is applied to projecting display devices, optical information processing, etc., is widened in the application range and possibility of the modulator by obtaining output images including less noises, is capable of forming fine pixels and embodies videos of high luminance and high fineness as the pixels are formed of metallic thin films in the case the modulator is used for the projecting display device. ;SOLUTION: This liquid crystal spatial optical modulator includes a photoconductive layer 103 and multilayered dielectric film layers 105 on the one electrode between a pair of substrates 101a, 101b having the electrodes and is constituted by forming films 106a, 106b for orienting liquid crystal molecules on both substrates, disposing these films opposite to each other at a spacing controlled to the specified spacing and disposing a liquid crystal layer 107 in this spacing. The electrode layer 104 formed with pixels is formed between the photoconductive layer 103 and the multilayered dielectric film layers 105.
