PURPOSE: To provide a simple and economic water quality monitoring device with which the safety of water can be confirmed by severely and intensely monitoring the quality of water and which can be operated easily. ;CONSTITUTION: A water quality monitoring device is equipped with test water tanks 1 into which waste water is introduced and which are provided with light transmitting bottoms 3 and light quantity discriminating sensors 8 respectively counterposed to the bottoms 3 on the outside of the bottoms 3 and become narrower as going toward the bottoms 3 from their openings, and then, in which marsh snails 28 and fishes 27 are bred and a sensor controller 39 which discriminates the quality of the waste water by receiving light quantity signals from the sensors 8. When the quality of the water is deteriorated, the marsh snails 28 drop from the walls of the tanks 1 and the quantity of the light reaching the sensors 8 decreases. As a result, the controller 39 issues an alarm. Therefore, the quality deterioration of the waste water can be quickly and easily detected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
