PURPOSE:To simplify the automatic sensitivity adjustment of a mark sensor by a method wherein a comparator is electrically connected with the control unit so that threshold signals, plus side output terminal selective signals and minus side output terminal selective signals can be input. CONSTITUTION:When a comparator 4 receives a threshold signal C and either one of two output terminal selective signals P or Q, it becomes possible for the comparator 4 to give operation/decision. From this moment, the comparator 4 is under a condition where it waits for the adoption order of a digital quantity X by the main operation. Then, in the main operation, it is decided whether the figure for (X-C) (Note: X is the digital quantity for a register mark M) is a plus value or not, and also which is larger between X and C. When P has been input, a mark detecting signal R is output from a plus side output terminal 4c, and when Q has been input, a signal S is output from an output terminal 4d. By this method, passing of the register mark M is assuredly detected.
