PURPOSE: To stably perform welding of the circumferential joint and to facilitate quality security of a weld zone. ;CONSTITUTION: A profiling travel carriage which can carry out profiling travel along the peripheral surface of the external barrel 7 is provided above a reinforcing ring 12 fitted along the upper part of the weld zone 9A on the external barrel 7 of an annular vessel 1. A turning frame 24 extending below the reinforcing ring 12 suspended freely turnably via a supporting shaft 51 is provided on a supporting arm 23 projecting on the tip side of the reinforcing ring 12 on this profiling travel carriage 22 and a welding torch 31 is provided via a vertical profiling mechanism which energizes an up-and-down profiling roller 25 from under side and abuts on the peripheral edge 5a of the bottom of a lower ring 5 and a horizontal profiling mechanism 29 which energizes a right and left profiling roller 28 and abuts on the peripheral surface of the external barrel 7 on this turnable frame 24.
