PURPOSE:To sufficiently improve working efficiency and protect a cage by temporarily providing a preassembled elevator cage on the steel wall with the entrance opening of a trunk for an elevator, and suitably turning and moving the cage together with the steel wall through a hinge. CONSTITUTION:At building a hull block on the ground, the steel wall 2 with the entrance opening 2a of a trunk T for an elevator surrounded with a steel wall 6 is turnably fitted to the steel wall 6 with a hinge 8, and an elevator cage 1 in the preassembled condition is fitted to the steel wall 2 through supports 3, 3'. This hull block is loaded on a lower hull block constituted out of steel walls and steel decks, and assembled by welding. At welding in the trunk T, the steel wall 2 is turned so that the cage 1 is outside the trunk T, and at welding on the entrance side of the elevator, the steel wall 2 is operated so that the cage 1 is inside the trunk T. After completing weld, the cage 1 is fitted to supporting members 5 and suspended with steel rope, and the supports 3, 3' are removed. Further, the steel wall 2 is fixed to the steel wall 6 with bolts.
