PURPOSE:To remove protective paper securely by providing a protective paper peeling-assist device, provided with peeling members for raising off the peeling- start side top end of the protective paper, at the forward of a position where the protective paper is peeled off by an automatic protective paper peeling device. CONSTITUTION:This device is composed of a protective paper peeling device 10 and a peeling-assist device 50. Plural spring plates 51 are provided on the assist device 50 at the positions of sticking members 31 and 32, respectively. To peel off a protective paper 34 from the sticking members 31 and 32, the spring plates 51 are applied to them at a position slightly forward of the top end of the sticking members 31 and 32 stuck at the V-form end on the front surface of a paper roll being rotated. The top end of the protective paper 34 is raised off from the top end 51a of the spring plate. Then the tip of a knife 18 of the protective paper peeling device 10 is inserted between the top end of the spring plate and the sticking member 31 or 32 to peel off the protective paper. At the top end of the spring plate 51, multiple slits 51b are provided in the lateral direction of the paper roll at a fine pitch. Thus the top end of the spring plate 51 is bent against the wrinkled front surface of the paper roll.
