The method involves inserting a spacer wedge (20) inside the flat tubular component (12). The spacer wedge is then aligned with the holes (14) in its upper and lower surfaces (15) before the cylindrical component is fitted through them. The spacer wedge is shaped so that it can be fitted axially through a hole in the flat tubular component and then expanded inside it. It is made from a hard synthetic material which is resistant to compression. Once expanded inside the flat tubular component, it has a central aperture which receives the cylindrical component with a force fit.
