PROCESS FOR PREPARING ALIPHATIC OR AROMATIC MONO- OR DICARBOXYLIC ACIDS

In the present invention there is disclosed a process for the preparation of aliphatic or aromatic mono- or dicarboxylic acids having 4 to 22 carbon atoms by oxidation of the corresponding aldehydes having the same number of carbon atoms, which preparation process consists essentially in that the used aliphatic or aromatic aldehyde has one or two aldehyde, hemiacetal or acetal groups or there may be used a mixture of such aldehydes and oxidation is carried out in a carboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of formic acid, acetic acid and propionic acid, or in a mixture of carboxylic acid and water, at a temperature ranging from about 50 to about 130 degC, at a pressure of from 0.1 to 2.5 MPa, and in the presence of an oxidizing agent and in the absence of a catalyst.
