Disclosed is a method for processing gold-bearing difficult-to-process sulphide ore by storing the ore in an environment that is essentially free of oxygen, preferably starting with fine grinding of the ore and ending with the flotation of the desired final concentrate enriched in sulphide minerals. In one embodiment, nitrogen is used to prevent contact between the ore and air during ore grinding and flotation operations. This invention recognizes that gold in refractory sulfide ores is contained mainly in refractory gold-bearing sulfides, which are usually the most difficult to float sulfide varieties. By reducing the exposure during flotation of such difficult-to-process gold-containing sulphides to oxygen gas, an increase in recovery to the flotation concentrate is achieved.
