PURPOSE:To measure and check the concentration of Cd lower than an allowable level in a refined liquid quickly with high accuracy by separating the Cd and coloring through the use of a coloring agent and then measuring the absorbance by means of a spectrophotometer. CONSTITUTION:A sample solution is fed, along with a complex forming liquid, to a mixer 6 where an iodine complex of Cd is formed. It is then introduced to an ion-exchange resin column 10 and adsorbed by the ion-exchange resin phase. An eluate is then introduced by an eluate injection pump 8 into the column 10 where the adsorbed Cs ions are eluted into the eluate and fed to a mixer 15. A mixture liquid fed by means of a mixture liquid injection pump 12 is mixed thoroughly with a coloring liquid fed by means of a coloring liquid injection pump 14 and then introduced to a reactor 16 where a complex of Cd and the coloring agent is produced. The eluate develops a color stably and the colored liquid is introduced to a detector 17 for measuring the absorbance of the complex of Cd and coloring agent at a specified absorption wavelength and then the concentration of Cd is determined using a previously prepared working curve.
