Biogas is produced from organic matter in a closed system. The process gives rise simultaneously to a sol nutrient product. The production unit comprises enclosed individual organic matter process compartments. Processing is carried out at 40-50 deg C preferably at 42-46 deg C during identical or substantially identical periods. The end product is removed and organic matter is fed preferably consecutively in cycles. Biogas is released preferably continuously in a holder (12) held at higher, than atmospheric pressure. Vapour found in the biogas is optionally condensed and transferred to the organic matter to be treated. The production unit comprises several reclosable compartments (1) connected to the gas holder (12) by a conveying pipe-work complete with stop-valves. Another pipe-system equipped with valves (6) conveys condensed vapour from the holder (12) to the compartments.
