Knitted or woven cloth is inexpensively, more evenly dried and shrunk - by fixing it to an endless tenter frame going through a duct formed by upper, lower guide belts and over air-jets to run with a wave shape
Continuously drying and shrinking of knitted or woven material (1) entails leading it damp inside a passage (4) formed between two endless upper (2) and lower (3) air-permeable circulating guide belts to be dried from both sides at one or more drying stations (5,6,7) formed by opposing hot air jets (8,9) directed towards and displaced w.r.t one another. The material is fixed at the sides to an endless tenter frame (13) advancing through the passage while being held away from the lower band of the upper belt and the upper band of the lower and hence the blasts of air. Consequently, it runs in a wave shape through the drying stations, i.e. in passing through the blast zone of an individual jet it blows out to lie against the belt further away from the jet. Also claimed is appts. for the process.
