PREPARATION OF A CONCENTRATE OF POLYUNSATURATED ACID ETHYL ESTERS BY ETHANOLYSIS OF AN OIL RICH IN POLYUNSATURATED FATTY ACIDS FOLLOWED BY ADDITION OF UREA TO FORM AN INCLUSION COMPLEX AND THEN SEPARATION
Prepn. of a concentrate of polyunsatd. fatty acid ethyl esters comprises: a) ethanolysis of an oil rich in polyunsatd. fatty acids, which has been previously refined, using ethanol in the presence of a catalyst; b) complexion of these esters with urea in soln. in ethanol, giving an insol. inclusion complex; and c) sepn. of the inclusion complex and recovery of a fraction of ethyl esters rich in the polyunsatd. fatty acid esters in the liq. phase. The oil is pref. a vegetable oil rich in gamma -linolenic acid (evening primrose oil, borage oil or oil from the pips of the fruits of the Ribes genus, pref. blackcurrant), or a vegetable oil rich in linoleic acid and poor in alpha linolenic acid (partic. passion flower oil or maize oil) or a marine animal oil rich in eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids. The concentrate in soln. in hexane is treated with activated carbon (10-40 wt.%) at room temp., the carbon sepd. and the hexane evapd.
