Various 5H-pyrrolo(3',4':5,6)(1,4)dithiino-(2,3-C)(1,2,5)thiadiazole-5,7(6H)-diones corresponding to formula (I) wherein R represents -H,benzyl, phenethy), a C[err]-C[err] straight or branched chain alkyl radical, a C[err]-C[err]-cycloalkyl radical. a C[err]-C[err] straight or branched chain alkoxy radical, aC[err]-C[err]cycloalkoxy, an ester of the formula -CH[err]CH[err]O-C(O)-R[err], whereinR[err] represents a C[err]-C[err] straight or branched chain alkyl radical or a C[err]-C[err]cycloalkyl radical or R represent phenyl substituted with from 0-5 halo,C[err]-C[err] straight or branched chain alkyl, cyano, nitro groups, or an ester ofthe formula -OC(O)-R[err], where R[err] represents a C[err]-C[err] straight or branchedchain alkyl radical or a C[err]-C[err] cycloakyl radical or an amide of the formula -C(O)-N(R[err])[err], wherein each R[err] independently represents aC[err]-C[err] straight or branched chain alkyl radical or a C[err]-C[err] cycloalkyl radical are disclosed. These compounds have been found to exhibitantimicrobial and marine antifouling activity in industrial and commercial applications and compositions containing these compounds areso employed.
