A coiling machine to wind hot rolled stock such as strip or sheet with a thickness of between 0.5 and 5.0 mm comprises a turntable assembly (12) rotating about a central axis of rotation parallel to the plane of feed (14), two coiling mandrels (15a, 15b) and an assembly (23) to guide the strip to cooperate selectively with each of the mandrels. The turntable assembly is able to assume, by rotating, a first angled position so that a mandrel (15a or 15b) is in correspondence with the plane of feed (14) and ready to receive the leading end of the rolled stock and to begin coiling. The assembly (23) is normally arranged in a first inactive position outside the turntable assembly (12) and is selectively movable to a second working position associated with the first position, in which it cooperates with the leading end of the rolled stock to guide it around the first mandrel. Also claimed is a coiling method using the above machine.
