A tarpaulin or similar covering (8) is supported on cross bars (7) carried by roller carriages (6,9) on tracks at each side of an opening for retracting into accordion pleats when the bars are pulled together. The support bars are connected by two or more flexible bands (1) stiffened by two rigid members (3). The two rigid portions are connected to the bars by a further flexible band (4). The portions include rectangular or trapezoidal fin spacers (5) on their lower surface to keep the rigid portion raised and aligned when the bars are drawn together. The tarpaulin covering is attached to the bar carriages.
