Previous solutions require the active co-operation of the subjects or the insertion of specific identifiers into the current programme of a radio-broadcasting transmission. By contrast, the novel method manages without the active assistance of the listeners and without programme- specific identifiers. The individual subject carries on his person a listener- specific recording unit which records in each case a short section of the present signals in a defined time sequence. At the same time as this, short sections of all programmes of interest are recorded by means of programme- specific recording units. In the recording units, characteristic data are derived in each case from the digitized sections and stored together with time of day/date. Finally, the data from all the recording units are read into a central evaluation unit and the temporal sequence of the selected programmes is reconstructed by comparing the listener-specific data with the simultaneous programme-specific data for all of the subjects. An important application is researching the switch-on behaviour in the area of radio broadcasting and television. IMAGE
