The system consists of a transducer head 1, an optical channel 2 and a unit for emitting and detecting light and signal conditioning and processing 3. A mechanical vibration in the transducer head is faithfully reproduced (in the electrical domain) at the output of the system 3s1. Accelerations or displacements in the transducer head generate displacements in an optical fibre cable and modulate the luminous intensity which, collected differentially by two optical fibres, is sent through the optical channel to the detector, signal conditioning and processing unit which reproduces at its output the acceleration or displacement of the transducer head. The system has an adjustable range and is able to measure vibrations at different points simultaneously. The system, without neglecting other systems, measures accelerations of low and very low frequencies or displacements in installations, buildings, equipment and components, working efficiently in a contaminated electrical, magnetic or electromagnetic environment.
