In accordance with the present invention, there can bemass produced long-term preservable lunches in a short periodof time, because a series of such operations as formation, cleaning, sterilizing, dishing-up, sealing and filling thelunch box with an inert gas are carried out consistently byvirtue of the production unit of lunches of the presentinvention. Further, because the lunches are allowed to passthrough successively the gas chambers filled with the inertgas, no insufficient filling of the lunches with the inertgas will occur.Further, the lunch boxes can individually be filled withthe inert gas when each lunch box is provided with a sealingvalve and filled with the inert gas by inserting an inert gasfilling tube into said lunch box through the sealing valve. The film for sealing the lunch boxes is provided thereon witha self-sealing member, and said lunch boxes may individuallybe filled with the inert gas by inserting the gas filingneedle into each lunch box through said self-sealing member.Furthermore, foodstuffs for which their freshness isrequired such as vegetables or fruits can be prevented fromtheir deterioration of quality with time when an ethylene gasadsorbing means is arranged in the lunch box. Suchputrefactive foodstuffs as vegetables or fruits may be dishedup in the lunch box while maintaining a level of freshnesswhen they are harvested and delivered to lunch producers whenthey are stored in a bag provided with an ethylene gasadsorbing means and arranged in said lunch box.
