SYSTEM FOR EMULATING MULTI-TASKING PIPELINES IN A SINGLE TASKING ENVIRONMENT

A control system emulates a multi-tasking environment using asingle tasking processor. A number of predefined tasks are provided in atask library. When a host application needs processed data from a datasource, the host application creates a pipeline of initialized instantiationsof one or more of the tasks from the task library. When the hostapplication invokes the pipeline, the data request is made from the hostapplication to a downstream-most section of the pipeline. The datarequest ripples upstreamwardly to the upstream-most instantiation of oneof the tasks from the task library. The upstream-most instantiation of atask obtains data from a data source and returns it downstreamwardly tothe host application, each instantiation of a task from the task libraryfurther operating on the data.
