The invention relates to an automated system formonitoring wildlife auditory data and recording same forsubsequent analysis and identification. The system comprisesone or more microphones coupled to a recording apparatus forrecording wildlife vocalizations in digital format. Theresultant recorded data is preprocessed, segmented, andanalyzed by means of a neural network to identify therespective species. The system minimizes the need for humanintervention and subjective interpretation of the recordedsounds.
