METHOD FOR MEASUREMENT OF BLAST FURNACE LINER THICKNESS

A method and apparatus is disclosed for inspecting a wall to evaluate theremaining thickness of the wall as well as the extent to which the wall hasbeen infiltrated by another material. The disclosure discusses directingphotons of radiation and/or neutrons into the wall and measuring and analyzingthe radiation emitted from the wall as a result of Compton scattering, pairproduction, photoelectric absorption and/or neutron absorption. The inventionis particularly well suited for inspecting a carbon hearth-wall liner of aniron-smelting blast furnace.
