The present invention is directed to a system for supporting the decisionmaking of a physician. Based on input data concerning a patient and a "bestpractice" knowledge base, the system provides recommendations to thephysician, which the physician considers when deciding what action to take.The invention is also directed as helping to ensure that all the relevant datais input and stored in a relational database. The invention includes a methodfor setting up the "best practice" knowledge base, implementing the knowledgebase, and improving the knowledge base using the data stored in the relationaldatabase. A specific embodiment directed to diagnosing and treating possiblecardiac ischemia is disclosed.
