The invention concerns a remote control system for activating or deactivating one or several functions of a portable telephone such as the sound elements characterised in that it uses: transmission means provided in the controlled zone (2) and transmitting a coded activation or deactivation message; delimiting means of the controlled zone (2) for controlling the bell of only the portable telephone(s) (3) located in said zone (2) and acting automatically on the main transmitting and/or receiving functions of only the portable telephone(s) located in the controlled zone (2). The invention is particularly applicable to portable telephones.
