The invention relates to a means of determining the contents of a tank chamber of a multi-chamber tank vehicle, such as a semi-trailer, a rail motor car, a trailer and similar, in such way that the measurement is consistent and can be verified. The aim of the invention is therefore to provide a measuring device which supplies consistent, verifiable values for determining the current content of the tank chamber. To this end, a sounding pipe (6) with a reference pipe (7) and an ultrasound sensor (8) is positioned inside each tank chamber (2), in the geometrical centre in relation to the crosswise and longitudinal direction.
