Method and apparatus for counter gravity casting in sand moulds

The method and apparatus concern ascending casting of a melt (18) from a crucible (20) into sand moulds (14) which are divided into top and bottom boxes (14.1, 14.2) and are located on transport plates (12). After entering into the casting unit the transport plate is lowered. Means in the form of press elements are provided against lifting of the mould. The riser pipe (22) tightly fits into and against the opening for it in the transport plate. The melt is pressed into the mould through the riser pipe. After the mould is filled, the transport plate is raised to its original level. The casting unit is provided with a carrier structure which supports the transport plate with the mould.
