The aim of the invention is to provide a particularly fast method for operating a train movement control unit with a centrally supplied track circuit. For this purpose, the length of track of a track circuit is divided into two adjacent partial track sections at a transmitting point of a transmitter. According to said method, the partial track sections are supplied with track currents which are received respectively by means of a respective receiver per partial track section. Said receivers are placed on the outer edge of their respective partial track section. When a train occupies at least one partial track section, the transmitter is electrically connected to the receiving point of the receiver which is located upstream from the train, viewed in the direction of the train movement, as an output receiver. Said output receiver is connected to the initial transmitting point of the transmitter for continuously controlling the trains on the whole length of the track. The transmitter is then immediately re-connected to its initial transmitting point, as soon as the train leaves the track section with its first axle.
