Subframe comprising the cast light-alloy housing of a rack-and-pinion steering

The auxiliary frame (4) is fitted to the body of a vehicle, and has a casing which is cast from light metal in order to accommodate a steering rack. Fastening arms are arranged on the sides of the latter, and have bearings for making detachable connections to the body. They also have retaining arms with bearings for making pivot connections to links which guide the wheels. The frame is a module for arranging units and/or unit components (13,14), and forms an assembly module with definite connecting points for them. It may also be a support for pipes (13) and hoses (14) for the front wheel brakes.
