Adding an iron shot or other material with a high dielectric constant to a thermoplastic paint in a mixing port of a conventional road marking fixture that applies paint to the surface of the road or paint on the road surface has adverse effects on the attachment equipment (Microwave / millimeter wave) radio metrics visibility of the display. The MMW radiometer automatically senses the microwave / millimeter wave energy from the display in the vehicle path as the vehicle moves along the road surface, including a downwardly directed MMW radiometer toward the paint surface. In some systems, the sensed energy is used in conjunction with another device to assist in guiding the vehicle within the lane. In other systems, the sensed energy is decoded and displayed as relevant information for the operator of the vehicle.
