In order to obtain improved readability of the liquid crystal display screen under the changed conditions of ambient visual sensitivity, it is possible to increase the dynamic range of the change of polarization voltage. However, this leads to an increase in power consumption and an increase in contrast defective defects. In order to avoid this phenomenon, it is proposed to shift this range towards higher voltages if the peripheral vision is increased, or to lower voltages, or if the peripheral vision is decreased, without modulating the dynamic range of the change in polarization voltage. Therefore, the white level is given under a high peripheral visual sensitivity, and the black level is given under a low or normal visual sensitivity.
