Electroluminescent displays have a substrate, an anode, an electroluminescent element and a cathode. At least one of the electrodes is transparent to visible light and the electroluminescent element has hole-injection zones, hole transport zones, electroluminescent zones, electron transport zones and electron injection zone(s), in the given sequence, and each of these zones can also assume the functions of the other zones. The novelty is that the hole injection and hole transport zone(s) contain an optionally substituted tris-1,3,5-(aminophenyl)benzene compound (I) and the electroluminescent element contains an luminescent material selected from substituted oxine complexes of mono-, di- and trivalent metal cations with ligand(s) derived from compounds of the 8-hydroxyquinoline type.
