The present invention relates to improving a blank for a wire drawing die formed of an annular cemented carbide support component, wherein the support component has a longitudinal extension from the inlet to the outlet end and extends radially with respect to the central longitudinal axis. Defines a cylindrical inner bore through the longitudinal extension, the cylindrical sintered polycrystalline compact component is received in the bore of the support component, spaced a predetermined distance radially from the longitudinal axis and wire drawn outlet from the wire drawn inlet end. It is attached to the support component at the interface surface extending along the longitudinal axis to the end. The compact component extends through a longitudinal extension around the central longitudinal axis and the inlet region of the die inlet tapers inwards from there through to the reduction region where the drawn wire first contacts the compact component. It receives a hole formed to taper to the bearing area and the exit area. The improvement of this wire drawing die blank is to rotate the radial distance from the central longitudinal axis to the interface surface, the radial distance tapering inwardly to the minimum before the bearing area from the inlet end and radially after the bearing area. The distance remains substantially constant up to the outlet end. The corresponding wire drawing die and the method for providing the wire drawing blank of the present invention also form a further embodiment of the present invention.
