In order to manage and operate the local area network (ATM-LAN) using ATM technology as well as the existing local area network, a network management system must be configured. However, installing existing Ethernet ports in all ATM devices to manage ATM-LAN will result in very high loss of network resources. In other words, the connection points M1 and M2 are required. However, in the present invention, instead of connecting M1 to the Ethernet port, the ALAN-BS device can control the terminal device using the ILMI protocol connected through L1. Therefore, since the network management system according to the present invention does not need to use the M1 Ethernet port, it is possible to minimize the loss of network resources as compared to the existing network management system.
