The present invention relates to a method for improving the performance of an International Data Encryption Algorithm (IDEA) using a digital signal processing (DSP) chip.;Information encryption is applied for confidentiality and authentication. As the application of encryption in high-speed information communication and networking such as ATM is gradually increasing, the demand for high-speed encryption hardware is also increasing. Many algorithms have been proposed for this purpose, and the International Data Encryption Algorithm (IDEA) is one of them. However, this algorithm requires many mathematical calculations, which makes it difficult to apply to high speed applications.;Accordingly, the present invention implements the IDEA algorithm using TMS320C54x, a high-speed digital signal processing (DSP) chip, and enables high-speed processing of the IDEA algorithm by using a method of more efficiently implementing 16-bit modular multiplication, which is a core operation.;In addition, the present invention prevents the exposure of information from a third party during the transmission through the encryption of the information during transmission of important information, and enables the secure transmission and storage of important data. To do this, the key required for encryption is changed for every file.
