The present invention relates not only to the therapeutic use of lipophilic extracts prepared from the exudates of Comaphora mukul vegetation but also to the preparation of pure compounds or highly standardized fractions as active ingredients. Extracts, fractions thereof, or single pure active ingredients isolated therefrom have been found to be useful in treating inflammation of the skin and external mucous membranes, in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and in the treatment of acne.
