An alanine dosimeter material is claimed, contg. alanine and a polyoctenamer and/or polystyrol binder. The mass ratio of alanine to binder is at most 2:1. The mixt. may also contain a plasticiser. Also claimed is a dosimeter made from the above material, which is in foil or tablet form. The dosimeter material is made by spraying a suspension or soln. of alanine and binder onto the surface of a carrier material. The surface is then convection-dried. It is ideally cleaned or treated beforehand (by covering with an adhesive or a detachable layer such as wax or silicone). Where the dosimeter is designed to adhere to the carrier, a substance such as a phenol (in the case of polyester or polyethylene carriers) may be used during the spraying and drying process.
