The method involves determining the shape of facettes on the edges of lenses and controlling lens processing accordingly. Shape data are entered for a frame aperture or shape plate into a CNC lens processing machine's computer. Personal optometric data are entered. The radii of the front and rear surfaces and the thickness of the raw lens are entered or derived from the optometric data. The front and rear edge curves are derived from the shape data and optometric data or from the shape data, radii and thickness. The spatial shape of a suitable facette between the forward and rear edge curves is derived and the lens processing machine is controlled according to the shape data and the spatial shape of the facette.
