An X-ray contrast composition (A), for inhalation to visualise pulmonary and mediastinal structures, consists of a nebulisable mixture of a water-soluble iodinated contrast agent (I) and isotonic sodium chloride solution, which forms an aerosol of droplet size 2-6 (preferably 4-6) mu m which is accessible to the lungs. Also claimed are a method for obtaining such aerosols by nebulising (A); and the use of (I) for the preparation of the aerosols by mixing (I) with isotonic saline.
