An air absorbing and retaining material, a knitted spacer material in particular, is used as a lining for polychloroprene diving suits. The lining maintains a space between the diver's body surface and the inner surface of the lining to protect the diver against heat losses in deep and cold waters. An alternative application is to protect patients during long operations through the maintaining of a distance between the patient's body and the operating table surface.
