Cooling the process following a reaction carried out under supercritical aqueous conditions is achieved by the addition of an alkaline solution. When the product of the chemical reaction in which an acid is used or produced is brought back to the sub-critical state, an alkaline solution containing KOH or NaOH is added for cooling.
