New macrocyclic methylene- and methyl-lactones and intermediates useful as musk fragrance in perfume composition

Macrocyclic methylene and methyl-lactones, keto-lactones and keto-carboxylic acids are new. (a) Macrocyclic methylene- and methyl-lactones (I), (b) keto-lactones (II) and (c) keto-carboxylic acids (III) of the given formulae are new: R = CH3 or -CH2-; x = 6 or 7; y = 3-5; dotted lines = C-C or C=C bonds, such that (I) contains at most one C=C bond; R1 = methoxy or iodine; m = 7 or 8; n = 4-6; for 9-Oxo-13-tridecanolide (II); x = 6; y = 3; and for 13-iodo-9-oxo-1-tridecanoic acid (III); R = I; m = 7; n = 4. are excluded. Independent claims are included for three methods of preparing compounds (I).
