The plate(1) is divided into two relatively adjustable parts(3,4) with an expandable element(6), especially a screw, guided compression spring or a compressive force producer at the joint line(5) between the two parts. Independent claims are made for: a) a use of the plate in a patients mouth for either: i) the active development of the upper and lower jaw bones; ii) transverse widening of both teeth sets: b) a method for manufacturing the mouth plate. Preferred Features: The joint(5) in the plate(1,3,4) is covered by a bridging piece(21) which is elastically stretched or clamped to at least one element of the divided plate. The central area of the plate is ground away in the throat area.
