X-ray image processing method for recognition of materials e.g. in security screening of baggage

Two X-ray sources (FX1,FX2) with different energy ranges are used to irradiate materials. During transitional irradiation of an object (3) detected signals are read into a computer processor (4) as continuous image data subdivided into defined image strips and temporarily stored. Materials are detected from the image strips during partial irradiation of the object.
