A power plant operating method comprises activating a gas generator (5), when the monitored pressure in a pressurized plant component (1) drops below a critical value, to produce a pressure wave for opening a non-return valve (7) connected at its inlet side to a lower pressure flooding unit (3, 4, 11). An Independent claim is also included for a safety system for a pressurized component of a power plant, comprising (a) a non-return valve (7), which is connected at its outlet side to the plant component (1) and at its inlet side to a lower pressure auxiliary medium flooding unit (3, 4, 11); (b) a pressure sensor (6) for monitoring the pressure in the plant component (1); and (c) a gas generator which can be activated by a signal from the pressure sensor (6) to produce a pressure wave at the inlet side of the non-return valve.
