The safety device uses a gas generator (3) and a drive unit (4) which is driven by the gas generator upon failure of the normal operating drive, e.g. an electric motor (2), for opening or closing of a tap (1). The drive unit may be coupled to a drive shaft (5) of the normal operating drive. Independent claims are also included for the following, a method for safety operation of a tap upon failure of the operating drive a safety device attachment.
