Use of fatty acid oligoalkylene glycol ester sulfates in adjusting viscosity of aqueous surfactant solutions

A fatty acid oligoalkylene glycol ester sulfate is used to set the viscosity of an aqueous surfactant solution. A fatty acid oligoalkylene glycol ester sulfate of formula R1COO(R2O)nSO3M (I) is used to set the viscosity of an aqueous surfactant solution. M = a cation, especially ammonium; R1CO = aliphatic, optionally unsaturated 6-22 C acyl; R2 = alkylene, especially -CH2CH2-, -CH(CH3)CH2- or -CH2CH(CH3)- or (R2O)n = (EO)u(PO)v(EO)w; n = 0.5-5; u, w = 0-5; v = 0.1-5; (u + w) = above 0; and (u + v + w) = 0.5-5. An Independent claim is included relating to an aqueous surfactant solution containing (I) and having: (a) a room temperature viscosity of above 103-105, especially at least 2 * 104 mPa.s; or (b) a room temperature viscosity of 10-2-103, especially 1-100 mPa.s.
