Method involves transmitting first and second sets of ultrasonic image beams with first and second transmission focal zone lengths to the medium to generate first and second images of pixel flow data. The two images are detected in sequence. A first current image of image-averaged pixel flow data is generated as a function of an image averaging algorithm. This image is displayed and is output with the second image of image flow data and a previously output image of image-averaged data, whereby the previously output image is a function of the algorithm, the first image and another previously output image-averaged image.
