Hydrodynamic damper for weapon barrel e.g. for shell launcher

The hydrodynamic damper uses a magnetorheological fluid as the damping medium, with the magnetic field for controlling its viscosity provided via electrodes or electromagnets (4) coupled to a voltage or current control device (5). The required viscosity is calculated via a firing processor (6) in dependence on a number of control parameters, relating to the shell, the firing charge and the magnetorheological fluid and supplied to the control device.
